STAND UP! FIGHT BACK

Trap Door Theatre Presents:

STAND UP! FIGHT BACK!

(a staged reading)

Directed by:        Kate Hendrickson
Produced  by:     Lyndsay Rose Kane.

Inspired by Howard Zinn’s A Peoples History of the United States and the Voices of The People’s History project, Trap Door Theatre presents: STAND UP! FIGHT BACK! A celebration of civil disobedience, past present and future. Featuring speeches, articles, and poetry from American political activists from 1800 to the present day, read by some of Chicago’s boldest actors.

Featuring: Madrid St Angelo, Casey Chapman, Rashaad Hall, Risha Tenae , John Kahara, Stephanie Shum, and Nicole Wiesner.

From black abolitionist Sojourner Truth, to Aids activist Vito Russo, to activists of today; voices of social justice inspire us to stand against racism, misogyny and hate and to fight for religious freedom, immigrants rights, women’s rights, lgbtq rights, freedom of speech and the rights of all people to live in a free and just democracy.

In solidarity with protesters all across the United State, join us for a night of celebration of these diverse and inspiring voices.

Admission is FREE!

There is no charge for this event. Instead donations to Chicago’s Heartland Alliance will be collected.

Heartland Alliance works in Chicago to serve those who are homeless, living in poverty, or seeking safety. They provide a comprehensive array of services in the areas of health, housing, jobs, immigration and justice – and lead state and national policy efforts, which target lasting change for individuals and society.
