Ella (Gus Thomas) is a winsome delight, at once farcical and heartfelt as Pawel’s indefatiguable fiancee. Thomas gives us an Ella that is almost eternally optimistic, starring in a love story of her own making, living with a dedication to her love that is beyond rebuke. As written this role could have been a two-dimensional misogynistic aside. Instead, Thomas’s Ella is an even truer acolyte to her deity – Love – than Pawel proves to his Art; she believes, she hopes, and she cannot be dissuaded. Thomas embraces the farce, the ludicrous, the laughs, without ever dropping Ella’s inner light that he makes genuine.
Soleil Rodrigue, Chicago Theatre Review (about Cuttlefish)
Gus Thomas as Ella, Rockoffer’s fiancé, is revelatory. at any time during the production, if I wanted a laugh, I turned to Gus Thomas and found him moping or mugging with delightful melodrama
Adam Kaz, Third Coast Review (about Cuttlefish)
Buescher’s vision for “Le Bal,” and the work of the amazing cast at Trap Door—Dan Cobbler, Genevieve Corkery, Cat Evans, Emily Nichelson, Gus Thomas, Jasz Ward and Carl Wisniewski—stretch the bounds of what theater can be.
Bill Esler, Buzz Center Stage (about Le Bal)
Gus Thomas as Ella plays Rockoffer’s perky and naive fiance with a charmingly oblivious air” – Allie Bujagski, Allie and the Afterparty
